September 2026 | Chongqing, China — Leveraging years of technological expertise, LifenGas has officially commenced construction of its high-purity electronic specialty gas core materials project in Chongqing, marking a significant milestone in the company's expansion into the electronic specialty gas sector.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project, developed by LifenGas (Chongqing) Semiconductor Materials Co., Ltd., a majority-owned subsidiary of LifenGas, was held at the Chongqing Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone. The project marks an important step in LifenGas' transition from its traditional focus on gas recycling and recovery toward a business model that integrates both gas supply and recovery.
Developing High-Purity Electronic Specialty Gas Capacity
The project represents a total investment of RMB 212 million, covering approximately 72 mu (approx. 4.8 hectares) with a planned total building area of around 15,000 square meters. Located in the Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone, the project benefits from the zone's comprehensive chemical infrastructure and robust industrial ecosystem, laying a solid foundation for its construction and operation. It will be developed in two phases, with a designed annual production capacity of approximately 1,200 tonnes of high-purity electronic gases and specialty gas mixtures, together with supporting filling and storage facilities.
Phase I will establish production capacity for fluorine gas, fluorine-helium mixtures, fluorine-nitrogen mixtures, fluorine-neon mixtures, and ultra-high-purity rare gases. Phase II will further introduce key specialty gases including phosphine, nitric oxide, and boron trichloride, as well as additional rare-gas mixtures. The project will also support the trading and distribution of more than 40 types of hazardous chemicals.
Strengthening the Regional Semiconductor Supply Chain
Electronic specialty gases are essential materials for integrated circuits, display panels, and photovoltaic manufacturing. With domestic market demand for these materials continuing to rise and significant potential for domestic substitution, the Chongqing project, once completed, will provide regional semiconductor and display manufacturers with more localized and diversified electronic specialty gas supply options.
By shortening supply-chain distances and reducing logistics costs, the project will help enhance the self-reliance and independent controllability of the semiconductor materials supply chain in Western China, while enriching the semiconductor materials ecosystem and fostering synergistic industrial development in the Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone.
Moving Forward
With strong support from relevant departments of the Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone Administration, key preliminary procedures, including project filing, environmental impact assessment, and safety assessment, have been smoothly completed, and the design, supervision, and construction teams are now in place.
LifenGas will continue to advance the project with a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficient execution, strictly controlling the entire construction process to ensure the project is completed and commissioned on schedule. Looking ahead, the company will further leverage its technological and R&D capabilities to expand its presence in the electronic specialty gas sector and support independent innovation in key semiconductor materials, contributing to the high-quality development of China's electronics industry.
